Description

This authentic silver drachm was issued in the name of Alexander III “the Great” during the late 4th century BC. The obverse depicts Herakles wearing a lion-skin headdress, symbolizing strength and divine ancestry. At the same time, the reverse shows Zeus seated on a throne holding an eagle and a scepter, imagery closely associated with royal authority and imperial power.

Coins of this type were struck across Alexander’s vast empire and continued to circulate long after his death, becoming one of the most recognized coin designs of the ancient world. Examples like this smaller drachms, were commonly used in everyday transactions throughout the eastern Mediterranean and Near East.
