Description

Description

These barbed bronze arrowheads with tangs were used by Roman Auxiliary Archers stationed throughout Judea during the 1st century AD, the same historical period as the life of Jesus.

Unlike the heavy infantry of the Roman legions, auxiliary archers were light troops recruited from the eastern provinces of the empire, where archery traditions were already well established.

The barbed design helped the arrow remain lodged in its target, increasing its effectiveness in battle. The tang allowed the arrowhead to be securely inserted into a wooden shaft and tightly bound before use. Bronze examples such as these are especially valued today, as most Roman military arrowheads from this period were made of iron and rarely survive in comparable condition.

Authentic battlefield relics from the Roman presence in the Holy Land, these arrowheads offer a direct connection to the military environment of Judea during the time of Jesus. A striking and historically meaningful artifact suitable for collectors of Biblical-era antiquities and Roman military history.

Period and Time

Period and Time

These barbed bronze arrowheads date to the Early Roman Period, 1st century AD, during the time of Jesus, when Roman Auxiliary Archer units were stationed throughout Judea and the wider eastern provinces of the Roman Empire. Auxiliary troops supported Roman legions in maintaining order, defending strategic roads and cities, and participating in regional conflicts across the Holy Land.

Crafted from bronze, these arrowheads reflect a long eastern Mediterranean tradition of bronze projectile weaponry that continued alongside iron examples during the Roman period. The barbed form increased effectiveness in combat, while the tang allowed secure attachment to a wooden shaft, making them practical and reliable weapons used by trained auxiliary archers serving Rome.
