This remarkable cast-bronze axe head originates from Mesopotamia during the Iron Age, dating approximately to 1200–1000 BC. The piece features a cylindrical socketing shaft and a beautifully sculpted figurine of a deer positioned on the top of the axe head—a symbolic motif commonly associated with strength, protection, and divine blessing in ancient Near Eastern cultures.

The blade is broad and elegantly curved, showcasing the weapon-making skill of Iron Age craftsmen. Its surviving patina—rich green and textured—indicates its long burial and authentic ancient bronze oxidation.

Originally part of a warrior’s ceremonial or prestige weapon, this axe head reflects both artistic expression and functional design during a transformative age in Mesopotamian history.
